Creatives at the Castle - A Celebration of Art in the Heart of Rutland

Creatives At the Castle

If you’re looking for a lovely arty day out in early September, why not plan a visit to 'Creatives At the Castle'? This pop-up two-day event will take place at the historic Oakham Castle on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th September 2025, 10am–4pm, and is the perfect opportunity to enjoy beautiful surroundings while meeting the artists themselves, browsing and buying unique art, prints, ceramics, glass and more.

.

A Gathering of Artists

The event brings together the work of ten talented artists, each showcasing their own style and discipline (links lead to the artists NROS page where available):

Samantha Brockway – painter and Illustrator in watercolour and other water based media

Lisa Brodie – greetings card illustrator & printmaker

Claire Brown - ceramic artist

Tania Kent – wildlife and bird sculpture

Sarah Luke – artist working with kiln formed glass

Alex Parker (Eyvi Studio) – creates collograph, monotype prints inspired by rural life and wildlife

Jay Seabrook – printmaker producing collagraphs and monoprints of remote buildings and birds.

Estelle Slegers Helsen – photographer

Emma Turner – mosaic artist

Chrissy Wilson – artist and painter

Whether you’re an avid collector, looking to decorate your home, or simply enjoy seeing and supporting local creativity, there will be plenty to discover.

The Setting – Oakham Castle

Part of what makes this event so special is the venue itself. Oakham Castle is the finest surviving example of a Norman Great Hall in England, right in the heart of Rutland’s county town. With its rich history, beautiful architecture, and castle grounds, it provides a wonderful backdrop for exploring art.

Entry to the castle is completely free, and visitors can also enjoy the on-site café (open on Saturday), making it a perfect stop for a coffee and a slice of cake in between browsing. There’s limited free parking at the castle, plus additional public parking at Burley Road car park, only a short walk away.

Creatives at the Castle is also part of the Northants & Rutland Open Studios annual festival, which runs throughout September. If you’re planning a full day out, you’ll also find lots of other events locally and another group event running just around the corner at Victoria Hall in Oakham.
